Hypertufa Pots
with Julia Tomaro
MAEA: Hypertufa Pots
Tuesday, June 18th, from 2p - 3p
Ages: 18+ years old
Hyperturfa pots are eco-friendly and good for outside plantings. Hyperturfa pots are made by mixing cement, vermiculite, and peat into a slurry. Then, participants will drape old towels, like beach or bath towels, into the slurry. The towels will be placed upside down over a form to dry. Drying takes 3-4 days depending on weather. Participants will need to return to pick up their pot or come in a car that is lined with plastic so cement doesn’t get all over the car. Please bring old towels. We can make pots of several different sizes. In addition, if you have a large plant pot that you would like to use as a form you may want to bring that also. It will not get ruined because we will cover it with plastic. Bring rubber or vinyl gloves to protect your hands from cement abrasions.

You will choose the glazes of your choice for your fully functional food, dishwasher, and microwave-safe bowls. Experienced instructors will provide the support and advice you need to succeed. Clay, tools, and glaze firing are all provided. Your bowl will be ready for pickup at a later date so you may show off your new artistic skills to all.
