Using bits and pieces of art glass and fused glass scraps, students will fuse them together into strips and shapes with loops to hang. Find an interesting object to attach to and enjoy the tinkle when the breeze blows.

Introduction to Glass Bead Making
Make your very first glass beads! We will discuss important studio safety procedures, followed by time with a surface mix torch creating glass beads using soda-lime glass rods. You will make basic torus and cylinder shape beads and explore the properties of glass, including making your own frit. All materials included.
IMPORTANT: Students taking glass courses must wear natural fiber clothing (i.e., cotton shirt and denim jeans), closed-toe shoes, and hair tied back and out of the way. Loose clothing that will be in the way of the torch is strongly discouraged. Please wear clothing that is not essential to your wardrobe.

Mondays, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, 13, 2010am - 1pmLove to draw? You can do it in glass too! Use an engraving tool on transparent glass with a printed 10-12" picture from your phone or a magazine. It can be a landscape, cityscape, seascape, or a beautiful architectural building - come with it to class. Make sure it has background details as well as subject matter. I will also have choices available. Framing will be provided.Ages 17-adult

This class is for ages 18 and older.
Please note that participants need to wear closed toed shoes, clothes made of natural fibers and long hair needs to be pulled back.

Blown Glass Ornaments Using Glaskolben
Try your hand at making blown-glass ornaments. Using an oxygen-propane torch, students will learn basic techniques for using pre-blown glaskolben to make blown-glass ornaments. Frit will be used to add color to the clear glaskolben. Learning how to control heat, gravity and blowing techniques will determine your success. Creating these colorful ornaments will provide students a basis for working glass further in the torch. Each student will be provided 6 glaskolben. When you pick up your ornaments, be sure to bring packing material and a small container to transport your ornaments to the safety of your home. Torch Enamel on Copper Jewelry I
This is a make-and-take class. Use a stationary torch to create enameled copper shapes for earrings and other jewelry. Basic torch safety will be discussed. Several techniques will be explored, including cutouts, sgraffito, and color blending. All materials are included.
IMPORTANT: Students taking glass courses using a torch must wear natural fiber clothing (i.e., cotton shirt and denim jeans), closed-toe shoes, and hair tied back and out of the way. Loose clothing that will be in the way of the torch is strongly discouraged. Please wear clothing that is not essential to your wardrobe. AN N95 RESPIRATION MASK IS REQUIRED.
