Hypertufa for Veterans (2 sessions)

To make these sculptural earth friendly plant pots we will learn how to mix cement, peat and vermiculite to create a slurryy. Each person will bring a towel that will be dipped into the solution which creates the sculptural look. Embedded into that each will bring with them a momento, written thoughts or a scrap of clothing from their service as a veteran that will produce the final pot.
June 26th and July 10th at 6 PM
During the second session we will learn how to leach the pots of the lime from the cement and then plant them with herbs that will nourish and add the spice to life!

Basics of Drawing Wednesday July 9, 6-9pm
If you have always wanted to learn to draw or your drawing skills are rusty this is a great class to get you warmed up. During the session you will start with some exercises to open up your mind to drawing concepts, and then we will dive into several skill building exercises. We'll work with Line drawing, Perspective and a bit of shading. We'll talk about materials along the way. No need to bring anything, all materials will be provided.

Veterans Relaxation Through Journaling and Creative Writing
According to Warrior Allegiance, veterans, transitioning from military service to civilian life is a journey filled with complex emotions and challenges. While these experiences can be difficult to navigate, storytelling offers a powerful outlet for veterans to express themselves, reflect on their journeys, and connect with others. This journaling class allows veterans to share their stories through writing exercises, prompts, and short mindfulness meditations to promote reflection. Whether veterans are journaling about moments of courage, loss, or personal growth, in doing so, they can find healing and purpose.

Veterans Introduction to Encaustic Art

Introduction to Encaustic Art Wednesday, August 6 6-9pm.
Encaustic art is an ancient art form using beeswax as the medium. Using straight beeswax or pigmented beeswax you will learn about the process of working with melted wax to build layers. You can create straight up paintings or use the beeswax as a collage medium. You will want to bring some items such as interesting papers, fabric, photos, small lightweight objects to embed into the wax, dried flowers or other natural objects, doodads and all kinds of "junque". Panels will be provided for you to work on.
