With Earth Day approaching, what better way to celebrate than to create art? Learn the art of linocut printmaking in this hands-on class, where we will carve designs that express care and appreciation for the river that defines our watershed.
In this workshop, you will learn how to hand carve and print a mono-color linoleum block print from start to finish. By the end of the session, everyone will have a reusable carved block and at least one final print to take home. Please bring a few images or sketches inspired by the River Raisin to use in your designs.
Please note this studio is in a historic building with steps.
The workshop fee covers all material costs. Beginners welcome!

Undecided about what media to try? Afraid to commit to one media? Don’t even know what media is?
The only rule in this series or workshops is that there are no rules! Each week we will go on an adventure into different media and get playful. The goal will not necessarily be to make beautiful, finished pieces of art, although that may happen, but to experiment with media and learn some new things. We’ll work in a progressive way so that lessons each week can be built upon in the following weeks. Media focuses include Graphite & Charcoal, Prisma Color Pencils, Watercolor, Acrylics, Oils & Oil Pastels, Printmaking and possibly Collage/Assemblage. Taught by Taina Mantey with over 30 years of experience teaching art at every level, the emphasis will be on having fun and being playful.
Mondays, starting April 14th, 6 weeks 6-8:30pm
